A kiállításon számos alkotás mellett a Kis Varsó művészcsoport munkáit is láthatjuk.

THE PROBLEM OF GOD

09/26/2015 - 01/24/2016
K21 Ständehaus

The exhibition THE PROBLEM OF GOD shows how the Christian pictorial tradition has evolved as a universal heritage in a secular context. A conspicuous number of 120 works oppose doing a simple reading. Rather, they develop complex stories and images that deal with differentiated and profound Christian themes, topics or issues. The exhibition is therefore neither of sacred art still of religiosity in general. The focus of the exhibition focuses on works which, while taking on Christian symbols or topics with respect, however, this critically reflect, transform and convert them into new content and aesthetic contexts.

Versatile is the range of topics, ranging from the basic existential questions of life and the philosophical and spiritual challenges related to the humorous-critical study of various aspects of religion and belief from the confrontation with the art-historical tradition to current socio-political themes.

The selection of works focuses on the art of the past 25 years and includes paintings, paper, glass, sculpture, photography, video and film works as well as complex, partly created especially for this exhibition installations. Selected Works Mark central positions of the art history of the years between 1950 and 1980. They bear witness to the sometimes subtle way of example penetration of Christian character and symbol system retroactively understand and situate within a collective visual memory.

Outside the occasion of the presentation, with the art collection of North Rhine-Westphalia followed the invitation of the German Bishops' Conference, is the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council, which had decided an opening of the Church to society and thereby also to art after several years of deliberations.
